Ukrainian Ambassador to India Oleksandr Polishchuk on Saturday (23 August) said that an India visit for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is under planning, reported Hindustan Times.
He told reporters that both countries are finalising the date.
Speaking to ANI, Polishchuk stated, “Definitely expected to have President Zelensky in India. It will be a great achievement in our bilateral relationship. We are in the process of agreeing on a precise date.”
He noted that 23 August marks a historical milestone—one year after Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Ukraine and invited Zelensky to visit India for the first time.
Polishchuk praised the expanding India-Ukraine dialogue since 2023 and underscored India’s commitment to peace.
He referenced PM Modi’s remarks that India is “not neutral” in the war, affirming the nation’s support for peace, diplomacy, and political dialogue.
Polishchuk urged India to take a more active role in resolving the Ukraine-Russia conflict, explaining that Kyiv views New Delhi as a key actor in potential peace talks, due to its historic ties with Moscow.
He added that Ukraine hopes to build on this engagement during the upcoming UN General Assembly session in September.
“India supports the peace and dialogue and discussion and political interaction between all of our partners and with the Russian Federation, with the aim to achieve peace in Ukraine,” he emphasised.
