Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday (31 January) presented her eighth consecutive budget.
During her budget address, Sitharaman announced that the Centre will launch the PM Dhan Dhanya Krishi Yojna in partnership with states.
The scheme will cover 100 districts in the country and around 1.7 crore farmers will benefit from it.
The scheme aims to generate opportunities in rural areas so that migration is an option and not a necessity.
Through the convergence of existing schemes and specialised measures, the programme will cover 100 districts with low productivity, moderate crop intensity and below average credit parameters, the Finance Minister said.
Presenting the budget, the Finance Minister said that Indian economy is the fastest growing among all major economies.
"Our development track record for the past 10 years and structural reforms have drawn global attention. Confidence in India's capability and potential has only grown in this period. We see the next 5 years as a unique opportunity to realise sabka vikas, stimulating balanced growth of all regions," she added.
