Veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan got 10 years of imprisonment by Rampur MP/MLA court after he was convicted in the Dungarpur case, while the contractor Barkat Ali was sentenced to seven years imprisonment.

Both the convicts appeared before the court via video conferencing as Azam Khan is lodged in Sitapur jail while his close aide Barkat Ali is incarcerated in Rampur jail.

Dungarpur is an area in Uttar Pradesh's Rae Bareily district. In 2016, under the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP government, Azam Khan had demolished houses to build Aasra Aawas, a UP government initiative.

Consequently, separate FIRs were filed by 12 people alleging that on the directions of Azam Khan, the police had forcefully evicted them from their respective houses and the SP workers had looted the belongings.

This is the eight verdict concerning Azam Khan. He has been convicted in five of the cases, while acquitted in three of them. 84 cases against him are still under trial, Jagran reported.
