As part of a big infrastructure drive, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML) and the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) on 11 March for establishing a state-of-the-art Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

According to the press release, the signing was witnessed by Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, and Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal.

Set to be developed across more than 150 acres, the MMLP will be play an important part in India's expanding logistics ecosystem, with the potential to strongly enhance connectivity, cargo movement, and economic activity in the area.

Strategically positioned, the logistics park will be connected to National Highway 7 by a 650 metre road and is located 1.5 km away from the NH7-NH2 intersection.

Its multi-modal strength is that it has effortless connectivity to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor by a 5.1 km rail line from Jeonathpur Station and connects with National Waterway-1 as well.

The park is located 30 km away from Lal Bahadur Shastri Airport, providing unconnected, multi-modal access.

Authorities pointed out that the MMLP will introduce huge investment and job opportunities, amplifying India's vision to simplify logistics, lower freight costs, and increase trade competitiveness.

The initiative, according to ministry officials, is a bold step in “strengthening India's logistics sector, enhancing trade efficiency, and driving economic growth.”
