With less than a month left for the Vice-President election on 9 September, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to hold a crucial strategy session on Tuesday (19 August) in Parliament.

The meeting will be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is designated by the NDA to have the final say on the candidate, The New Indian Express reported.

The nomination process closes on 21 August, the day on which the NDA’s consensus candidate is likely to file papers.

Senior leaders, including Union Ministers, Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of NDA-ruled states, are expected to accompany the nominee in a show of political strength.

The BJP has directed all its MPs to remain in Delhi between 6 and 9 September to attend a party workshop ahead of the Vice-Presidential polls.

The session is also expected to review legislative priorities and organisational matters.

The meeting will come after the BJP Parliamentary Board’s deliberations on Sunday evening.

The Board meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister Modi with senior BJP leaders, including party chief J P Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in attendance at the BJP headquarters.

In the meeting, the top BJP leadership will hold wider deliberations on both the party’s top organisational elections and the Vice-Presidential poll.
