Who Will Succeed J P Nadda As BJP Chief? Party Nears Decision On Nadda’s Replacement, Announcement Likely By 15 March

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) may appoint its new national president, succeeding current party chief J P Nadda, in the next fortnight, NDTV reported citing sources.

With organisational elections completed in 12 states, the party faces a ticking clock before an inauspicious Hindu calendar phase starts on 15 March.

The party is reportedly trying to manage internal consensus, ideological alignment, and regional priorities in the selection of the next President.

Organisational elections in 50 per cent of the states is must for the election of BJP president.

With only 12 out of 36 states having completed elections, at least six more states must finalise their unit chiefs before proceeding further.

The BJP is reportedly fast-tracking the process in states that are due for assembly election next year -- Tamil Nadu, Bengal, Assam and Gujarat. There will be no change in Bihar, where elections are due by the end of this year.

According to the NDTV report, state in-charges have already been asked to submit prospective names for the top post.

While there are many names doing rounds, BJP’s knack for unexpected selection is keeping everyone guessing.

However, the consensus remains that the new president must have widespread acceptance within the party, particularly from the RSS, and must align with its core organisational values.

Additional considerations in the selection process include caste representation, North-South divide over language, and delimitation concerns, with a key focus on regaining electoral strength in Uttar Pradesh after the recent Lok Sabha losses.
