After showing signs of rebellion against Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, his deputy Keshav Prasad Maurya has praised him as the "best CM" in the country.

While speaking to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Mirzapur, Maurya said, "Is there any other leader like (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi in the world? Is there any other CM like Yogi Adityanath?"

Praising the double-engine government of the BJP, the UP deputy CM said, "When our country's leader is most influential in the world and when our CM is the best among other CMs of the country, then why should we be at backfoot?"

Maurya's message to the BJP workers was to strengthen the party at the grassroots level ahead of the bypolls for 10 assembly seats. He has been given the responsibility of Phulpur and Majhawan in Mirzapur district.

The rift between Maurya and Adityanath was settled after they took part in the Council of CMs and Deputy CMs meeting with PM Modi in New Delhi on 27-28 July.

Maurya then attended a Cabinet meeting led by Adityanath and was seen alongside him in the state legislative assembly. Notably, he had missed two previous Cabinet meetings since the results of the Lok Sabha election.

It is believed that senior BJP, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leaders had stepped in to resolve the conflict between the two leaders.
