In a high-level review meeting on Thursday (22 May) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced plans to establish one mini-stadium in every assembly constituency and one sports college in each mandal (administrative division).
He also instructed officials to ensure that all sports-related infrastructure projects are completed on time and with top-notch quality, Zee News reported.
The meeting was conducted to review the performance of the sports and youth welfare departments.
CM Yogi stressed that regular reviews should be conducted at multiple levels: monthly by the Minister, every 15 days by the Principal Secretary, and weekly by senior officials. He also directed that all sports colleges be developed as centres of excellence.
Currently, three divisions have operational sports colleges, and construction is ongoing in three others. CM Yogi instructed officials to accelerate the process of establishing colleges in the remaining 12 divisions (Uttar Pradesh has 18 divisions).
He also proposed integrating all sports competitions with MP-MLA level tournaments and linking them with the State Sports University, aiming to provide international-level facilities for athletes.
He highlighted that the development of sports infrastructure is progressing rapidly across the state. Projects such as the State Sports University, sports colleges, and stadiums are underway, with a strong focus on maintaining high construction standards.
Yogi emphasised a transparent selection process for athletes to ensure that new and talented players emerge from the state. He called for organising sports competitions at the village, block, district, division, and state levels to identify hidden talent and prepare them for national and international competitions.
