Samajwadi Party (SP) MP from Uttar Pradesh, Professor Ram Gopal Yadav shared his thoughts on the success of Chandrayaan-3 in Rajya Sabha on Thursday (21 September).
During his address, he made a humorous request to ISRO (Indian Space Research Organisation) that drew laughter from all present in the house. The discussion revolved around the topic of the "Indigenous Space Journey of India - Chandrayaan-3".
Yadav remarked, "For eternity, we have regarded the moon as beautiful. Women see the moon on Karwa Chauth. We should tell our scientists not to release unattractive pictures of the moon; they should keep them for their research."
Upon hearing this, the entire assembly burst into laughter, and even the Chairman, Jagdeep Dhankhar, couldn't suppress his own laughter.
Yadav highlighting the importance of moon in literature, mentioned a couplet by the renowned Hindi poet Keshav, saying, "'Keshav kesan as kari jyon ari hoon na karaay, chandrabadan mrigalochani baba baba kahi kahi jaay.' (Keshav speaks of his gray hair, young girls with moon-like body, deer-like eyes now address him as 'baba')."
The SP MP went on to mention that the moon, being a symbol of beauty, is why women's names are often associated with it, such as "Shashi Prabha" or "Chandra Prabha," while men's names tend to be associated with its brightness, like "Subhash Chandra" or "Manik Chandra." He humorously noted that when people see unattractive images of the moon, it affects their perception.
