Congress leader Rahul Gandhi attacked the Adani Group in a press conference on Wednesday (18 October) citing the Financial Times of London article 'Mysterious coal price rise'.

Reiterating his earlier allegations of Rs 20,000 crore fraud, Gandhi said, "Rs 12,000 crore more is added to this. The total figure is Rs 32,000 crore. Gautam Adani buys coal in Indonesia and by the time it reaches India, its price doubles."

"By over-invoicing coal price, he (Gautam Adani) raised electricity price in India. Indian citizens should understand that Adani took Rs 12,000 from their pockets through electricity bills," Gandhi alleged.

Targeting Indian media, he asked why nobody questioned after this report surfaced. He claimed that this report about "direct theft by a man who is protected by the Prime Minister of India" can bring down the government.

Emphasising electricity subsidies provided by Congress governments, Gandhi asked the PM to comment on the matter and take action against Gautam Adani.

On the question of SEBI not having any documents in this regard, Gandhi said, "This is a matter of protection from the highest level of governance."
