In a press meet at Tiruchirapalli, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, K Annamalai indicated that the BJP would support the candidate of the Edappadi Palaniswami faction of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK).

Speaking to reporters, he said that the AIADMK is the biggest party in the alliance and other alliance partners should support it.

He added that the right candidate would be one who has the ability to take on the money and muscle power of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and win the seat.

However, there has not been any official announcement of the BJP's support to the AIADMK.

The AIADMK had planned to field former minister KV Ramalingam from the seat but has now asked party members who are keen on contesting to submit a form and an amount of Rs 15000 to the party.

Meanwhile, Congress candidate EVKS Elangovan and other Congress leaders met Chief Minister MK Stalin. Later, they are expected to meet Kamal Haasan to seek the support of his party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM).
