V Maitreyan, a former Rajya Sabha MP and organising secretary of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (9 June) at a programme in New Delhi.
He was welcomed by BJP national general secretaries CT Ravi, Arun Singh and party spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam.
Maitreyan, considered to be a supporter of O Panneerselvam (OPS) was expelled from the AIADMK by Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) in October 2022.
During his youth, he was associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Later, he held various positions in the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP, including the post of state president in 1999-2000.
Welcoming his induction into the party, BJP state president K Annamalai said that Maitreyan's experience in public service would provide a boost to the party.
