Imagine going into an old temple, seeking peace but finding chaos instead. That's what's happening at most of India's pilgrimage spots.
Although infrastructure around sacred sites has improved significantly, the temple experience itself hasn't seen much progress.
Recent events, such as the widely-shared video of a devotee injured at the Srirangam temple and the tragic death of a girl in a long queue at Sabarimala, highlight this problem. Despite initiatives like PM Modi's projects such as the Kedarnath and Kashi corridors, the temple experience for many devotees still falls short.
If we don't address this issue now, future generations might lose interest in visiting temples altogether. What can we do to maintain the sacredness and improve the temple-going experience?
In our February edition, we discuss this + other important questions. This, in a way, exemplifies our priorities and, in more ways than one, continues the focus from our special issue last month.
