Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the people of Chhattisgarh will not tolerate the state government in the state anymore and will change it in the upcoming Assembly elections.
“Aur nahi sahebo, badal ke rahebo (won’t tolerate [Congress government] any longer, will replace)”, said PM Modi at a public rally in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker town of Maoist-hit Bastar division on Thursday (2 November).
In his criticism, he singled out Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel for "nepotism and corruption".
He further promised that if the BJP were to gain power, the party would prioritise the construction of pucca houses for the underprivileged and increase the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for millets.
Modi emphasised the significance of the next five years for Chhattisgarh, as it marks the completion of 25 years of statehood and that the vote in this election will decide the future of their children.
“In these five years of the current government, only children and relatives of Congress leaders benefited. What did tribals, poor and backward people get? Congress gave you bad roads, bad schools and bad hospitals. They created a new record in corruption and violence is at an all-time high,” Modi said, Indian Express reported.
PM Modi said that around 4 crore poor people have already got pucca houses in India till now.
"If we come to power, we will make pucca houses for all the poor under the Awas Yojna,” he said, adding the Congress government did not implement the Centre’s housing scheme in the state just because the credit would go to him (Modi).
During his speech, Prime Minister Modi criticised Chief Minister Baghel, accusing him of only doing people's work after taking a 30 per cent commission.
“30 per cent kaaka (uncle which Baghel is referred to as), apna kaam pakka,” said Modi.
The Prime Minister also mocked the Baghel government for failing to fulfill their promise of establishing a corn-processing unit in Bastar.
“Batao kaaka, kahan gaya makka (tell us uncle, where has corn gone),” he said.
The Prime Minister said that the Nagarnar steel plant will create employment opportunities for one lakh individuals in the future.
In opposition to Congress's emphasis on English-medium schools in Chhattisgarh, Modi stated that if BJP comes into power, they will prioritise regional languages.
According to PM Modi, students find it easier to study in their native languages and can excel in becoming doctors or engineers.
PM Modi said that BJP's resolution is to elevate Chhattisgarh to a prominent position among the states in the country and ensure the welfare of the poor, tribals, and backward communities.
The elections for the 90-member state Assembly will take place in two phases on 7 and 17 November.
In the first phase of the upcoming elections, voting will take place in twenty seats across seven districts of Maoist-hit Bastar division, as well as in Rajnandgaon, Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, Kabirdham, and Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai districts.
The remaining 70 seats will be voted on in the second phase. Vote counting will take place on 3 December.
