Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to San Francisco, made a statement claiming that the government had made efforts to obstruct the Bharat Jodo Yatra, but failed to do so.
Gandhi is currently in the United States for a three-city tour, where he intends to meet Indian expatriates and American lawmakers.
In his speech, Gandhi accused the government of employing all its resources to halt the Bharat Jodo Yatra.
He further alleged that the government was intimidating people and misusing government agencies. Despite these alleged efforts, the Yatra gained momentum, as the concept of "Join India" resonated with the people. Gandhi attributed the initiation of the Bharat Jodo Yatra to the fact that the BJP-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh controlled all the tools necessary to connect with the public.
During the community gathering, Gandhi restated his party's strong support for conducting a caste census, emphasizing its potential to shed light on the prevailing caste-based discrimination within society.
He likened this census to an "x-ray" that would uncover the extent of such discrimination. Additionally, he expressed confidence that initiatives like Nyay and MGNREGA would play a crucial role in ensuring economic justice for underprivileged individuals.
Gandhi leveled accusations against the BJP and the RSS, asserting that they were actively undermining the Constitution and attempting to foster divisions based on caste and religion within the country.
These remarks from Rahul Gandhi come just weeks before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming visit to the United States.
Prime Minister Modi has accepted an invitation from President Joe Biden, and is scheduled to arrive in June. The visit will include a state dinner hosted by the US president and First Lady on 22 June.
