As per news reports, the Centre has asked for a report on the case of 'looting and an attempt to murder in Amritsar by five Nihang Sikhs'. One among them is said to be a close associate of Khalistani sympathiser, Amritpal Singh Sandhu.
On 4 March, a resident of Amritsar, Karanbeer Singh was attacked by five men dressed as Nihang Sikhs bearing swords and sharp weapons. He was attacked while leaving for home in his car.
After attacking him, the assailants, who came in a SUV, robbed him off his belongings, taking his car, wallet and mobile.
Based on eye witness accounts, the Punjab police caught one of the assailants, Sukhmandar Singh, who turned out to be part of Amritpal’s inner circle.
As per this Dainik Jagran report, the Punjab police has submitted an FIR copy, along with critical evidence related to the incident, remand paper and Singh’s confessional statement to the central investigating agency.
During his interrogation, Singh revealed critical information that may connect to Moga jail incident, where Amritpal Singh's supporters surrounded and demanded release of their associate Lovepreet Singh.
Conceding to the violent crowd, Punjab police had released Lovepreet and declared him innocent.
