An effigy of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma was found at Ford road area of Belagavi in Karnataka on Friday (10 June).
The effigy was hung near the old vegetable market on Fort Road and two photos of Sharma‘s face were pasted on the effigy, reports The Hindu.
Nupur Sharma, who has been under an intense attack from Islamists and facing several death threats after her alleged inflammatory comments on Prophet Mohammed during a TV debate, was suspended from her party earlier this week.
According to the reports, Belagavi city corporation member Shankar brought the effigy to the notice of police.
The effigy was reportedly hanged at night on the cables on Fort Road in the city. The effigy has since been removed from the area.
The effigy drew angry responses from BJP members and Hindu activists, who have demanded an investigation by the police in the matter and action against the culprits.
It should be noted that protests and sloganeering were held after Friday congregational prayers in several parts of the country, including Delhi, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Rajasthan and Maharashtra and Jharkhand over Nupur Sharma's remarks against Prophet Mohammed.
In Atala area of Prayagraj, people raised slogans and pelted stones after the Friday prayers ended.
