In an horrific incident, the son of a Congress leader in Jharkhand's Dhanbad region has been accused of assaulting a teenager for not saluting him.
A video capturing the incident shows Ranveer Singh, the son of Congress leader Ranvijay Singh, along with his bodyguards, allegedly kicking and attacking the 17-year-old boy with a pistol butt and sticks. The victim was also briefly kidnapped.
The father of the assaulted boy has filed a police case against Ranveer Singh and his associates. According to the victim, he was beaten while inside the car, and his father was threatened.
In a video lasting nearly two minutes, several individuals, including a man wearing a white kurta, can be seen verbally abusing and physically assaulting someone. The face of the victim remains unseen.
However, the video clearly captures the use of obnoxious language, with one man repeatedly questioning, "Why didn't you salute me, (expletive)?"
Akash Chandel, a Class XI student of Delhi Public School, who was beaten mentioned in a video that he had completed a tuition class and was waiting outside a shopping complex in Koyla Nagar area of the town when this incident took place.
He said "We were just waiting there when six-seven cars, Ranveer Singh's cars, drove up. The car number was 0027. 20-25 people came out and grabbed me, asking, 'Why don't you do pranaam?' I refused and then they started beating me... they said 'we feel like beating you'."
According to Chandel, the men forcibly took him into one of the cars and transported him to a nearby tea shop, where the beating continued.
At the tea shop, one of the bodyguards forcefully made him kneel at Ranveer Singh's feet. They then confiscated his phone and used it to call his father, making threatening remarks.
Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh's father denies any connection between his son and the attack. He claims that this is a deliberate attempt to tarnish his political reputation. Singh further emphasises that his son cannot be identified in the video and calls for a thorough forensic investigation to determine its authenticity.
He said "Anyone can accuse anyone else... there are accusations against me also. But this needs to be investigated to see what happens. I am not worried by incidents like this and will continue doing my work... this looks like a fight between boys.
