The Bharatiya Janata Party today released its first list of candidates for the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections. The list comprised of 189 names. The Karnataka assembly has 224 seats.
Here are the highlights from the list while the full list can be accessed here.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai will contest from Shiggaon (in Haveri).
Former deputy chief minister R Ashoka will contest from Padmanaba Nagar in Bengaluru.
Former CM Dr C.N. Ashwathnarayana will contest from his traditional Malleswaram constituency in Bengaluru.
BJP National General Secretary C.T. Ravi will contest from Chikmagalur.
Son of former CM, B S Yediyurappa, B Y Vijayendra will contest from Shikaripura, the constituency represented many times by his father.
Murugesh Nirani, who was said to be in contention for the post of CM after B S Yediyurappa's resignation, has been fielded from Bilgi.
Ramesh Jarkiholi, who crossed over from the Congress to the BJP in 2019, has bee fielded from Gokak.
Notably, the BJP list has 52 new faces, 32 candidates belonging to OBC communities; 30 to SC; 16 to ST; and nine women candidates.
