Mafia-turned politician Atiq Ahmed was shot dead along with his brother Ashraf three people late on Sunday night in Prayagraj.

UP police have arrested all the three accused who opened fire on the spot.

The names of the youths who committed the murder are being identified as Shani Singh, Arun Maurya and Naveen Tiwari. Some are also reporting the name of the last accused as Luvlesh Tiwari.

Shani Singh's brother Pintu Singh told the media that- "He used to do nothing and cases have already been registered against him. We were three brothers out of which one died. We live separately from him and he had ran away in childhood itself".

Reports also say that Shani Singh, aged 33, is a history-sheeter with alias 'Purane Thakur'.

Shani Singh got involved in criminal activities from the age of 16, after the death of his father, joining his elder brother Mangal Singh in criminal operations.

Arun Maurya is reported to be a native of village Baghela Pukhta in Soron area of ​​Kasganj. His parents passed away some time back and Arun is the youngest of three siblings. Local reports say he had fallen into bad company since long.

Naveen (Luvlesh) Tiwari's father shared with the media: "He is an addict, we have no relation with him. There is already a case against him in which he slapped a girl, went jail in that".
