The Ministry of External Affairs on Thursday (12 May) said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Lumbini in Nepal on 16 May on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.

"Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will pay an official visit to Lumbini on 16 May 2022 on the occasion of Buddha Purnima at the invitation of the Rt. Hon’ble Sher Bahadur Deuba, Prime Minister of Nepal," the MEA said in a statement.

PM Modi will also hold a bilateral meeting with his Nepalese counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba during the visit.

"Prime Minister Modi’s visit continues the tradition of regular high level exchanges between India and Nepal in furtherance of our Neighbourhood First policy," the MEA said, adding that the visit underscores the "shared civilisational heritage" of the people of both countries.
