Security personnel in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh have successfully recovered two pressure improvised explosive devices (IEDs) that were planted by Naxalites on a road, according to a police statement released on Tuesday (26 December).
Thus far this year, the security forces have managed to recover a minimum of 180 IEDs that were installed by Naxalites in the state, according to reports.
A police official reported that a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and the district police's Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) discovered two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), each weighing 5 kg, on the Palnar-Cherpal villages road during their patrol on Monday. The official further noted that the explosives were linked to pressure switches.
The officer reported that the BDS later defused the bombs, thereby preventing a significant catastrophe.
During anti-Naxal operations in the Bastar division, which encompasses seven districts, Naxalites are known to frequently set up explosives with the aim of attacking security forces, according to sources.
A skirmish occurred in Bijapur between a combined squad of security forces and Naxalites in a forest close to the Palnar-Saavnar villages on Monday evening, marking another event.
The police reported that, despite the encounter, there were no injuries on either side.
