In a major milestone in dismantling the terror infrastructure, security forces in the last two years have neutralised 79 terrorists of Pakistan backed Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror organisation.

Additionally, security forces have encountered and eliminated 35 terrorists in multiple encounters in the Jammu and Kashmir region, including five from The Resistance Front.

A Time of India report quotes an official saying that, "In the year 2022, a total of 129 terrorists including 93 local terrorists and 36 foreign terrorists were killed."

Notably, in 2023, the the number of 'unidentified' terrorists rose from one in 2022 to 27 till July.

"Interestingly, there was only one unidentified terrorist in 2022, but in 2023, the figure of 'unidentified' rose to 27 till July," the official said.

Furthermore, the number of locals joining terrorists ranks have decreased. "The security forces have an upper hand now when it comes to containing terrorism and terrorists in the valley," another official said.

"The top terrorists organisation Hizbul Mujahideen, LeT, Jaish-e-Mohammed have lost many of their men in various operations. There is a steep fall in the infiltration of terrorists from these organisations," the official further said.

The reasons for the decrease in local recruitment, according to the security forces, is due to the crackdown on overground workers who assist in terrorist activities while living like a common civilian.

Another reason, as mentioned in the report, is the success of the security forces in thwarting infiltration attempts and strengthening the security grid.

Most recently, the Indian Army conducted Operation Trinetra-II in the forested hilly areas of the Poonch-Rajauri region to eliminate terrorists believed to have been hiding there since 2021.

During the operation, the forces succeeded in eliminating six terrorists in a single day.

This comes after the terrorists hiding under the cover of dense forests, were able to kill ten Indian Army soldiers including five from special forces.
