Indian Para-Athletes Create History With Record 111 Medals At Asian Para Games In Hangzhou

India's para athletes on Saturday (28 October) concluded their participation in the Hangzhou Asian Para Games with style, securing a total of 111 medals.
This is the highest medal count for the country in any major international multi-sport event.
The Indian para athletes won 29 gold, 31 silver, and 51 bronze medals at the Hangzhou Asian Games, which took place from 22 October to 28 October.
In the overall standings, India was fifth, behind China, Iran, Japan, and Korea.
The first Para Asian Games in 2010 in Guangzhou, China, saw India finishing 15th with 14 medals.
In the subsequent editions of 2014 and 2018, India ranked 15th and eighth, respectively.
On the fourth day of the Asian Para Games i.e. Thursday, India surpassed its 2018 medal count of 72.
Athletics contributed the most with 55 medals, followed by shuttlers with 21. Chess and archery secured eight medals each, and shooting added six. On the last day, India won 12 medals across chess, athletics, and rowing.
Earlier India finished at the fourth position in the Asian Games, held between 23 September and 8 October, with 107 medal, the highest medal tally of the country so far.
