The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (4 October) announced that the resumption of the En Mann En Makkal padayatra of state president K Annamalai has been postponed to 16 October as he is unwell.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the party announced that the padayatra which was supposed to resume on 6 October would now be held from 16 October and a revised schedule would be published.

It added that a meeting of district leaders scheduled for 5 October, would be held as per schedule.

According to the hospital's statement regarding Annamalai's condition which was attached to the post, he had visited the hospital late in the evening on 3 October, with complaints of cough, throat pain, body ache, fatigue and difficulty in breathing.

A scan revealed nodules in the basal segment of the left lung and the provisional diagnosis of the doctor was "Lower Respiratory Tract Infection of Viral etiology with bronchospasm."

He was given medications for five days and advised bed rest for two weeks.

Annamalai had recently visited Delhi to meet the national leadership of the party after the end of the previous phase of the padayatra.

His visit also came days after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) announced that it had left the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
