India is among the last surviving idol worshipping cultures in the world. In such a nation however, a song like pathar ki pooja karke haari (I worshipped an idol of stone in vain) gets written, composed and sung by the very same people who worship their gods through idols.
Hindus, unfortunately, have become defensive about murti puja (idol worship). Many Hindus themselves end up being apologetic about it and blame themselves for what they consider is a 'mistake' of the past.
Best-selling author Amish along and his co-author Bhavna Roy have tackled these very issues in their latest book, Idols: Unearthing The Power Of Murti Puja. They sat down for an in-depth conversation on it with me earlier this week. You can watch the full chat here.
