Voting Underway For First Round Of Elections In Uttar Pradesh: Here's How These 58 Constituencies Voted In 2014, '17, And '19

  • Uttar Pradesh will see election in seven phases with the last date of polling on 7 March and counting of votes on 10 March.

Voting for the first phase of assembly elections is underway in Uttar Pradesh. Today, 58 constituencies, across 11 districts are holding elections. All the 11 districts are in the western part of the State.

The main challenger to the incumbent BJP in the region is the alliance between the Samajwadi Party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal. The BSP and the Congress are fighting it alone this time.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP led in 57 of the 58 constituencies going to polls today and the SP in one. The RLD, BSP and Congress in none of them.

In the 2017 assembly elections, the BJP picked up 52 of these 58; the BSP, 3; the SP, 2 and the RLD, 1 (Chhaprauli). The Congress did not win in any of the 58.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, when the SP-BSP-RLD were in an alliance, the BJP still led in 46 of the 58 constituencies and the Opposition alliance led in the remaining 12. The Congress led in none.

Uttar Pradesh will see election in seven phases with the last date of polling on 7 March and counting of votes on 10 March.

The next round of polling in the State will be on 14 February.
