The Central government will roll out new National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks in 22 languages included in the VIII schedule of the Constitution.
The initiative aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020's vision of providing multilingual education to students.
Chairing a high level meeting on new National Curriculum Framework and new textbooks based on NEP 2020 in New Delhi, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan asked officials to develop textbooks in 22 languages included in the VIII schedule of the Constitution.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from NCERT, the Secretary of School Education, and members of the National Steering Committee on National Curriculum Framework.
According to a statement by the Education Ministry, the rollout of books in 22 languages will be in consonance with the National Education Policy-2020 perspective of imparting multilingual education.
Pradhan also announced that the NCERT's learning-teaching material, "Jaadui Pitara," will be distributed as open educational resources to every school.
He highlighted the need to transform this initiative into a mass movement, encouraging creative and innovative youth to develop various learning-teaching materials.
