In a significant development for Bengaluru's public transport system, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has revised the schedule for the Yellow Line, advancing the start time to 6 am and improving train frequency.
The changes, effective from Wednesday (9 September), aim to ease the burden on commuters facing overcrowding since the line's launch last month.
The Yellow Line, spanning 19.15 km from Rashtreeya Vidyalaya Road to Bommasandra, now operates with four trainsets, reducing the headway from 25 minutes to 19 minutes.
This adjustment follows the addition of a fourth train on the route, operations on which were launched with three rakes on 11 August.
Earlier, services began at 6.30 am, but the new timetable advances this by 30 minutes on weekdays, from Monday to Saturday.
On Sundays, operations will commence at 7 am, maintaining the usual pattern.
The move is likely to benefit commuters, particularly those heading to Electronics City.
The enhanced frequency will help manage the growing ridership, which has surged since the line's inauguration on 10 August by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The line interchanges with the Green Line at RV Road and is set for future connections with the Pink and Blue Lines.
The Yellow Line was initially launched with three trains, leading to longer waits and complaints from passengers.
With the latest update, BMRCL is reportedly planning to introduce more trainsets by March 2026, targeting full operations with 15 sets. However, delays in deliveries could further extend the timeline.
