India’s First Toy Cluster Begins Operations In Karnataka

India’s first toy cluster based in Koppal in Karnataka started its operations on Tuesday (12 July).

The Koppal Toy Cluster (KTC), set up by Aequs Infra, a group company of Belagavi-based Aequs Pvt. Ltd, began its production process at the first unit, while four others are said to get operational in the next three weeks, as reported by The New Indian Express.

“Strategically located in Koppal, the district that offers human resources in abundance, the cluster will empower omen in North Karnataka, particularly Koppal. As toy manufacturing is highly manpower intensive, the cluster will provide ample job opportunities,” said Aequs Chairman Aravind Melligeri, as quoted.

And on the occasion of World Youth Skill day on 15 July, direct interviews will take place for job opportunities at the cluster, and those between the age of 20-30 years can appear for the same, as reported by One India.

This global scale cluster is part of the special economic zone(SEZ) spread over 400 acres. It is designed to house an entire Toy Manufacturing Ecosystem to support toy manufacturers, suppliers, and vendors across the toy value chain.

The toy cluster, as per earlier reports, aims to brings together in-campus business support services, including social infrastructure and residential accommodation, to support the workforce.

The cluster will include raw material suppliers, shared infrastructure such as plug-and-play industrial sheds, research and development, design and prototyping, testing, training, quality certification, customs, ancillary industries and service providers etc.

The cluster is also estimated to attract an investment of over Rs 4,000 crore and create over 25,000 direct jobs (mostly for women in North Karnataka) and over a lakh indirect jobs. Envisaged under the Product Specific Industrial Cluster Development Programme of the government of Karnataka, this is the first cluster in India dedicated for manufacturing toys.
