The Karnataka government is considering an expansion of the Namma Metro service to include four outlying towns of Bengaluru - Doddaballapur, Nelamangala, Devanahalli, and Hoskote.

This matter was discussed in a meeting involving chief minister Siddaramaiah, deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar, and Congress MLAs from Bengaluru Rural.

A separate meeting was conducted with MLAs from regions including Kodagu, Hassan, Mandya, Bengaluru Rural, Chikkaballapura, Davanagere, and Chamarajanagar.

An MLA who attended the Bengaluru Rural legislators' meeting stated, "We proposed the Metro extension to these four towns to enhance the connectivity with Bengaluru city".

Another MLA added, "This will not only foster development in these towns but also help alleviate traffic congestion in Bengaluru."

Times of India reported that Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar informed the attendees that the Metro project's phases 2A and 2B will link the suburbs of Bengaluru, including the Kempegowda International Airport.
