As many as 23 cases have been filed in New Delhi by police for bursting crackers for Diwali, as per a report in The Times of India’s Delhi edition today.
The data is from the beginning of October till 24 October this year. The corresponding number of cases filed for selling crackers is 150.
Last year, the police had filed 210 cases for bursting crackers and 125 cases for selling crackers from 28 September to 4 November.
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai had said a week ago that bursting crackers in New Delhi will attract jail for six months along with a monetary fine.
The ban on manufacturing, storing, sale and bursting of firecrackers in Delhi is in place till 1 January 2023.
