A Muslim family in Uttar Pradesh’s Parsapur Mahrarur village in Wazirganj which named their newborn son “Narendra Damodardas Modi” on the day of the Lok Sabha 2019 result has decided to change his name to “Mohammed Modi”.

As reported earlier, Mainaz Begum, 40, gave birth to a baby boy. When informed, her husband Mushtaq Ahmed working in Dubai, asked his wife to name the baby after Modi.

“After exchange of greetings through a video call, he (Mushtaq) asked me to name the baby as Narendra Damodardas Modi as his birth coincided with Modi’s victory in the Lok Sabha polls,” said a visibly elated Mainaz. Her father-in-law Mohammad Idris submitted the affidavit to the DM’s office.

The family though has now decided to change the baby’s name to Mohammed Altaf Alam Modi following opposition by the mother’s in-laws as reported by News18 Hindi.

As per the report, the in-laws demanded a complete name change but later compromised by allowing the parents to retain the name Modi. The mother also claimed that members of her community were very upset over the baby’s initial name which also contributed to her decision.

The report also claims that a dispute has arisen over the date of birth of the child. While the mother claims that the baby was born on 23 May, others claim that the date of birth is actually 12 May.
