After US And Australia, European Commission’s Chief Calls For Probe Into Origin Of Coronavirus

European Commission has backed the calls from Australia and the United States (US) for an independent investigation into the origin of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, reports WION.

European Commission's Chief Ursula von der Leyen has not only called for a global investigation into the subject, but also for China to join the investigation. It should be noted that while the US is conducting its own investigation into the matter, Australian PM Scott Morrison has called for a global investigation which now Leyen has backed.

Leyen also underscored that it is vital for the world to know of the origins of the pandemic. She said, "You never know when the next virus is starting, so we all want for next time, we have learned our lessons, we have established a system of early warning that really functions, and the whole world has to contribute to that."

Different nations have begun to increase diplomatic pressure over China. Australia is also planning to raise the issue of the independent probe over Covid-19 at the World Health Organisation (WHO) meet on 17 May. Besides, Australia is also set to support Taiwan’s entry into the WHO, which has added to its already tensed relations with China.
