The Government has asked the States and Union Territories (UTs) to direct the district magistrates (DMs) to identify children who have lost their parents or guardians to COVIUD-19, and to upload their details on the recently launched "pmcaresforchildren.in", reports Times of India.

Upon registration on the said portal, the children will begin to receive support and prompt assistance under the "PM Cares for Children" scheme.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) had written to the State Governments and UT administrations on bygone 22 July and asked them to complete the task within the next 15 days.

Under the scheme, the eligible children will be supported through health insurance, provided education and equipped with the financial support of Rs 10 lakh upon reaching the age of 23 years.

The eligible children for the scheme include those who have lost both the parents, or surviving parent, or the legal guardian or the adoptive parents due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
