The space products designed and manufactured by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) would be commercialised by setting up a public sector undertaking named New Space India Limited (NSIL).
This commercial arm will be part of the Department of Space to boost India’s power in the field of space and technology, which has made a name for itself in designing low cost, high-quality space products.
This commercialisation of space products would include production of launch vehicles. It will also include transfer of technology (TOT) and space product marketing.
Currently, SpaceX is the market leader in aerospace manufacturing and has developed the famed Falcon launch vehicle. It remains to be seen if ISRO emerges as a challenger to the Elon Musk led company.
