Former Union Finance P Chidambaram will continue to remain under CBI custody till Monday but has been granted protection from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) by the Supreme Court, The Hindu reports.

The apex court will now hear Chidambaram’s pleas on Monday, a bench comprising Justices Banumathi and A S Bopanna ruled. The court was hearing two separate petitions filed by Chidambaram challenging a Delhi HC order which dismissed his anticipatory bail appeals in cases filed by the ED and CBI.

Chidambaram was arrested in a dramatic sequence of events on Wednesday (21 August) night which saw CBI officials climbing the walls to Chidambaram’s residence to take the former minister into their custody.

Chidambaram was then produced before a special CBI court on Thursday (22 August) by the investigative agency which sought a five day custody to interrogate him in connection with the scam. Chidamabaram was then sent to a five-day CBI custody by a special court in connection with the INX Media Scam
