Cases have been filed against four All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) workers namely Prithviraj, Vijay Anand, Madhivanan and the granny whose video went viral on social media—Tulasiammal.
The Coimbatore police believe that the video was planned by the AIADMK party to defame the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Minister K Ponmudi and the state government.
In the video, the grandmother was seen arguing with a bus conductor to charge her for the trip as she did not want to travel ‘OC’ (free).
‘OC’ was the very same word used by the Minister in his remarks which were seen as demeaning to women.
Women in Tamil Nadu are allowed to travel free in town buses as per a poll promise made by the DMK before the 2021 Assembly elections.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
