The government has informed the Supreme Court that by the end of July, production of COVID-19 vaccines in India will be ramped up to more than 13 crore doses per month, reports Times of India.
The government said that Pune based Serum Institute of India (SII) has ramped up its production of Covishield from five crore doses per month to 6.5 crore doses per month. It added that further ramp-up is expected by July.
Besides, Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech has increased its production of indigenous Covid-19 vaccine Covaxin from 90 lakh doses per month to two crore doses a month, the goverment said. It further added that the production is expected to further rise to 5.5 crore doses per month by July. It also added that efforts have been made to support the scale-up of Covaxin's production under its Mission Covid Suraksha.
Meanwhile, informing about the Russian Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, the government told the apex court that the production is expected to increase from 30 lakh doses a month to 1.2 crore doses a month by July. Sputnik V vaccine is to be distributed in India by Hyderabad based pharmaceutical major Dr Reddy's Laboratories.
