The eligibility condition for obtaining the Covid-relief fund in case of the death of an insured person has been relaxed by reducing the minimum contributory period from 70 to 30 days by the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).

Moreover, three high-level committees have been formed to bring about the overall development of ESIC and enhance its service delivery mechanism.

The three committees have been designated separate responsibilities. One of the panels will be monitoring the infrastructure development and time-bound completion of the ESIC hospital.

The other two committees will be concerned with recruiting the best workforce for ESIC and developing information technology (IT) for capacity building, telemedicine, online monitoring of acquiring and dispensation of the medicines, respectively.

These decisions were taken at the 18th board meeting of the corporation, which is chaired by the Union Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav.

Moreover, the Labour Ministry has also commenced a pilot program for preventive annual check-ups of insured people aged 40 years or above.

These tests will be carried out at four ESIC medical colleges or hospitals situated at Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Faridabad.

The project will be ramped up following the assessment of the success of the pilot initiative, The Economic Times reports.
