In the light of rising incidents of childhood obesity, Vitamin D deficiency and declining physical culture, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made an announcement that classes 1 to 8 will now have one period every day for Health and Physical Education, reports NDTV. The mandatory classes will start from the upcoming academic session starting in April.
The announcement is in continuation of the program incorporated last year where Health and Physical Education (HPE) was introduced for class 9 to 12 students and was made mandatory for all CBSE schools.
"CBSE has decided to mainstream Health and Physical Education for classes IX to XII with the aim of holistic development of the child, leading to a well-balanced individual in all walks of life," board had said in a statement.

Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
