Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which manufactures Indian Air Force’s (IAF) flagship Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, has delivered a Chetak helicopter to the Indian Navy ahead of schedule, Zee News has reported.

The HAL had signed a contract with the Indian Navy in August 2017 for supplying eight Chetak helicopters out of which the first two were scheduled for delivery next month.

The HAL though supplied the first helicopter one month ahead of schedule, which pleased the Indian Navy officials.

“It is an honour to accept the first production helicopter one month ahead of schedule...We appreciate HAL's commitment and look for continued support in future”, said Commodore Vikram Menon after receiving the delivery.

The rest six need to be delivered by August 2020 and the company has expressed confidence in meeting this deadline.

HAL would also be instrumental in providing after sales support for the Chetak fleet which comes equipped with latest communication and navigation systems developed by the aviation manufacturer.

HAL had restarted the Chetak production line for the Indian Navy after incorporating latest technologies. It produced its first ever Chetak helicopter for the Indian Navy back in 1966.
