Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday (3 February) inaugurated Ladakh region’s first ever university- University of Ladakh, as per reports by Economic Times.
Currently, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) state has four universities besides an Indian Institute Technology (IIT) and an Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) in the Jammu region, and has three universities and a National Institute of Technology (NIT) in the Kashmir valley.
After inaugurating the university, Modi said that Ladakh now has first cluster university, which comprises degree colleges of Kargil, Leh, Drass, Nubra, Khaltsi and Zanskar. Furthermore, the administrative offices of the university will be in Kargil and Leh.
The establishment of the first university in the Ladakh region was approved by the J&K government on 15 December.
