Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the state chief minister and Sharad Pawar's nephew Ajit joined him as his deputy chief minister of the state in Maharashtra, reports The Economic Times.

In early morning development Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) came together and met the Maharashtra Governor and staked claim for forming the government.

The duo was sworn-in at function in Raj Bhavan held around 8 am today, with the presence of a few BJP and NCP leaders, and other government officials.

Soon afterwards, Fadnavis said that the Governor would give them a letter instructing when to prove the new government's majority on the floor of the Assembly.

He added that the cabinet would be expanded at a later date.

Earlier, it seemed as if Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP alliance were going to form the government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to twitter to congratulate the Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar for taking oaths of their respective offices.
