In a major escalation of the security situation in the Kashmir Valley today (2 February), militants carried out a grenade bomb attack on the personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), reports the Times of India.
The attack was carried out close to Pratap Park in the bustling Lal Chowk area of Srinagar, leaving a CRPF jawan and four civilians injured. However, no casualties have been witnessed as an outcome of the attack as per the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Police.
The attack took place at a time when the area was witnessing the conduction of weekly flea market. Thus, the loud explosion of the blast caused panic among the people who had come to the market.
Following the attack, the jawan and four civilians who were injured were moved to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, the security forces in the region have cordoned off the area where the attack took place.
