Piyush Goyal who has been given additional charge of the Finance Ministry in the absence of Arun Jaitley, will start his interim finance budget speech at 11 AM today (1 February).
Even though this is the final budget before the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, many believe that there would hardly be anything ‘interim’ about it.
The markets reportedly opened on a cautious note but Sensex since then jumped 155 points to 36,412 at 10.10 AM and Nifty gained 44 points to hit 10,875.
As far as the latest budget news goes, Piyush Goyal has arrived at the Parliament amidst much media fanfare.

He will now take part in a cabinet meeting before commencing his speech. He had earlier paid a visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan to brief President Ram Nath Kovind over the budget.
As per Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, the Narendra Modi government’s last five budgets have been dedicated to the farmers and the same will be visible in today’s budget.

The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
