A mysterious object with Mandarin text on its cover has been found in a village in Kamle district of Arunachal Pradesh, about 100 km inside the Indian territory, police said on Saturday, according to the Times of India.
The object, which looks like a partly burnt white box, was wrapped in a cloth-like material. It was first spotted by a villagers. According to Superintendent of Police in Kamle John Pada, the object was found stuck in a tree.
The box, which opened up on hitting the tree, appeared to contain a black device. The lower compartment of the device reportedly contained a battery to power it during flight. It also had a powdered substance connected to wires.
Local administration officers trekked for five hours to Repari village, located at a height of 3,642 feet, to retrieve the object.
According to NDTV, the white box could be a Chinese aerial surveillance or a high-altitude weather observation device.
The object has been handed over to forensic experts for investigation and the Centre has been informed about it, the report says.
