Union Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, today (19 December) released NITI Aayog’s comprehensive national Strategy for New India, one that will steadily accelerate the economy to achieve a GDP growth rate of about eight per cent, reports Business Standard.
“The various verticals of NITI Aayog's Strategy Document gives form to the Indian model which emphasises on faster growth and better resource utilisation to improve the quality of life for all,” the Minister said. “We stand in an important era in Indian history where we can make up for lost opportunities,” he added.
As part of the foreword to the document, PM Modi wrote, “The Strategy for New India @75 put together by NITI Aayog is an attempt to bring innovation, technology, enterprise and efficient management together, at the core of policy formulation and implementation. It will encourage discussion and debate, and invite feedback for further refining our policy approach. We believe that economic transformation cannot happen without public participation. Development must become a Jan Andolan.”
The NDA government replaced the erstwhile Planning Commission with NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India) in 2015. One of its primary objectives as the government’s think-tank is to foster cooperative federalism through structured support initiatives, recognising that strong States make a strong nation.
