Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi today appeared before a local Guwahati Court in connection with a defamation case. After his court appearance, he declared:
"They (RSS) want to divide the country and my fight is against them. I am not scared and my fight against poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment will continue..."
A volunteer of the RSS had filed a defamation case against Gandhi at the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Kamrup. The court had asked Gandhi to appear after examining different witnesses.
"They (Bharatiya Janata Party) want to disturb my 30-day trip to UP for the farmers. That is the reason such cases are filed against me," said Gandhi.
The case relates to Gandhi's visit to Barpeta Satra last December. He was supposed to enter the shrine before going on a road show, but decided to proceed to the road show without entering the Satra.
He later claimed that RSS workers had prevented his entry to the Satra by inciting local women to block his entry. The RSS volunteer had filed a defamation suit alleging that Gandhi had tarnished the image of the Satra while defaming the RSS as well.
