The Supreme Court on Wednesday (11 November) granted interim bail to journalist Arnab Goswami and two others in the 2018 abetment to suicide case.
An SC vacation bench comprising of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indira Banerjee said that the Bombay HC was incorrect in not granting bail.
The SC ordered that Arnab Goswami and two other accused be released on interim bail on a bond of Rs 50,000.
It also directed Commissioner of Police to ensure that order is followed immediately.
During the course of the hearing, Justice Chandrachud observed that "If we don't interfere in this case today, we will walk on a path of destruction. If left to me, I won't watch the channel and you may differ in ideology, but constitutional courts will have to protect such freedoms...", reports Bar and Bench.
Arnab was arrested on 4 November by Maharashtra police and is currently lodged in Taloja jail.
The Bombay HC on Monday (9 November) had rejected Arnab and two others' bail plea and asked them to approach the sessions court.
